2019 Annual Families of World War II Veterans Golf Tournament
November 15, 2019

Families of World War II Veterans held its annual golf tournament and fundraising event at Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas on Thursday, November 7. This year's tournament was presented by MetLife, where special guests and veterans attended to give, golf and honor our World War II veterans.

The golfers and sponsors of the tournament helped contribute to the Families of World War II Veterans scholarship fund. This fund has annually awarded scholarships to students pursuing an undergraduate degree at the college of their choice. To receive the scholarship, applicants must detail what the lessons, events and historical significance of World War II mean to them. Academic standing and financial need are also considered. A raffle followed the tournament, all proceeds of which go toward the scholarship fund. Prizes this year included exercise equipment from Peloton® and trips to Washington D.C., New Orleans and Florence, Italy. These cities are home to various World War II museums and memorial sites. These trips were special to this year's event in honor of the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

2019 scholarship winner Lexi Hutton was in attendance and gave a speech thanking the Families of World War II Veterans board and community. The speech was dedicated to her two grandfathers, who both fought in World War II.

Families of World War II Veterans was founded by Barbara Fasola, CEO of Frisco-based Careington International Corporation. Fasola was inspired to create Families of World War II Veterans in honor of her father, a World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific. Careington continued its tradition of supporting the organization and hosted the annual fundraiser. Other major sponsors this year included MetLife, Aetna, HealthMarkets, Qualbe Marketing Group, Axia Strategies, UnitedHealthcare and more. A complete list of sponsors can be found on the Families of World War II Veterans website.
