Families of World War II Veterans will hold its annual golf tournament and fundraiser at the Old American Golf Club in The Colony on Thursday, November 9. The event will raise money for student scholarships and will be attended by guests from around the nation, including veterans.
The tournament will raise money to provide funding for the Families of World War II Veterans scholarship fund. The fund has awarded over $200,000 in scholarships to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at the college of their choice. To receive the scholarship, applicants must detail in writing what the lessons, events and historical significance of World War II mean to them. Academic standing and financial need are also considered.
The Families of World War II Veterans nonprofit organization was founded, and is chaired, by Barbara Fasola, CEO of Frisco-based Careington International Corporation. Fasola was inspired to create Families of World War II Veterans in honor of her father, a World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific. "When I started the organization, it was to honor all the veterans who fought and served in World War II," said Fasola. "Through scholarships to students in need, I saw a way to further educate and help defray the high costs at the same time."
Careington is committed to its tradition of supporting and hosting this annual fundraising event. Other major sponsors this year include presenting sponsor Government Employees Health Association (GEHA), signature sponsor Qualbe Marketing Group and event sponsors HealthMarkets and Asia Strategies. A complete list of sponsors can be found on the Families of World War II Veterans website. Careington is also pleased to welcome Jeff Cheney, the mayor of Frisco, to the event.
Registration for the annual Families of World War II Veterans Golf Tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. along with breakfast, followed by a shotgun start promptly at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a silent auction and raffle prizes that include a custom golf cart, two vacation packages and an opportunity to drive a Bentley for a weekend.
